It happens to almost everyone......the dreaded afternoon slump. Most of us spend our mornings caffeinated, buzzing around the office getting lots accomplished. By the time lunch rolls around you are starting to crash a bit, but after eating your feel great for about an hour. The rest of the day drags on and you can not seem to wake up at all. Here are some tips on pushing through that daunting afternoon slump.

1. Eating a healthy afternoon snack

Foods that are high in protein, vitamins, and not full of carbs are always a great choice. Fruits, veggies, or a protein bar would be a great substitute for a candy bar, fruit snacks, or chips.

2. Chewing gum

This is a personal favorite for me because it is very convenient. It works best with gum that will pack a punch when you put it in your mouth. A spicy gum like Big Red is one that works really well for myself. It will kick start your brain and get things moving so you can power on through those last few hours.

3. Just getting up

Getting up out of your desk is something that can really make a difference. Go and talk to some work friends for a few minutes until you feel refreshed or even just get up to throw something into the garbage.

4. Getting some fresh air

On your break or during lunch take the time to get outside and refresh your senses. Being outside really helps to wake you up and you will feel completely energized again!

These are just some personal tips that I use to help me get through my afternoon slump. I hope you will find them useful as well! Remember to stay away from caffeine because it will just make you crash all over again once you get home from work! Try out these tips and only use caffeine as a last resort. Your body will thank you for it!
