As mentioned in a recent article, (See: “Market Optimism for Machining and Manufacturing,” July 19, 2018) CNC manufacturing, as a global industry, is on the incline. With investments from science and manufacturing industry leaders, the value of CNC and custom machining is predicted to reach a $93B value within the next decade. Attributed to technological advances, many of the innovations we see coming in the industry will aim at the reduction of operation and maintenance costs associated with running a robust CNC and machining service provider.
The Reality of “Smart Instrumentation”
While robotics, automation and A.I. are in the media, more immediate and realistic innovations in software and operational processes will be where the industry starts feeling the change. Smaller, “Garage-based” machinists will be left behind by companies like Miller Products that can integrate advanced, user-friendly software and automated platforms into an already productive workflow.
These add-ons in CNC and machining workflows increase accuracy and extend tolerances that, without integration, are simply unattainable. Through these software applications, adding custom characteristics from designers’ or customers’ unique specifications are already being practiced on the Miller production floor and look to become highly integrated into our Swiss CNC and special machining lines.

But with more demand for custom pieces at lower quantities with higher precision, the challenge to maintain our speedy lead time has been priority #1. With the integration of the latest software and hardware advances, producing highly custom pieces for our clients within the time frame they require is part of our daily operation. On top of the technological advances, best practices and LEED operations systems have been a pivotal factor in reducing lead times on these specialty orders.
